Information literacy

If you’ve ever asked a group of friends a question about a topic you didn’t have the answer to, watched a YouTube to learn how to do something, or looked something up on Wikipedia, you’ve engaged in research, such as wondering…

  • What are really good running shoes for people who pronate?
  • Does Bellingham add fluoride to its water system?
  • Why are there long waits at the Peace Arch USA-Canadian border crossing?

Research involves a question you want to answer or something you’re curious about, and then following some kind of process to get to an answer. The ‘process’ is the research process. All students have strengths in performing research even if they are just beginning. These tutorials will guide you through that process.

The research process can be more complex than the process you use to answer personal questions. It can require you to read academic resources in addition to resources you already use. Using academic resources, you will construct an answer to your research question. The answer will take the form of a paper, presentation, or poster.
